Stern, Donald O.

OREGON - Donald O. Stern passed away at home on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003. He was born on May 30, 1929, in Milwaukee to Olga and Otto Stern. Don started his educational career in the Milwaukee/Racine area as a teacher and elementary school administrator and continued his career in the Madison School District until retiring in 1990. He was an innovator, integrating special needs children within the Madison schools. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy years overseeing outdoor education programs. For many years Don was very involved volunteering his time with UW athletics. Since retiring he became actively involved with Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oregon. As husband, father grandfather and friend he touched and influenced many lives. He will be missed. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marj; and his four children, Karin, Jeff, Gary (Jan) and their children, Casey and Sara, and Barb (John) and their children, John, Bob, and Kayla. Don is also survived by his brother, Gerald (Nancy). Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at FAITH EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 143 Washington, Oregon. The Rev. Richard Lehmann will officiate., Burial will follow at Valhalla Cemetery in Milwaukee., Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2003 at the JOYCE RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, and also from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
