MADISON - Carroll Paul "Sandy" Theobald
died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, in Madison. He was born in
Oelwein, Iowa, on Aug. 27, 1933. He married his loved wife, Wendy Eunice
Arend on July 17, 1965, in Iowa City, Iowa. He is remembered by his
wife, Wendy; his son, Jamie, and wife, Melissa, of Seattle, Wash.; his
son, Jason and friend, Jennifer, of Verona; and his "borrowed"
daughter, Nancy Riley, and husband, Tim, of Madison. He is also survived
by his five older brothers and their wives, Thomas R. (Shirley), and
John R. (Shirley), all of Oelwein, Iowa, Richard V. (Dorothy), Iowa
City, Iowa, Jamie Q (Janette) of Osprey, Fla., and Jerry B. (Jacqueline)
of Dayton, Ohio. He is also remembered by many nieces; nephews; and
colleagues from Memorial High School where he taught English for 29
years; and by a large number of former students whose lives he touched.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. The family requests that
contributions be made to the Dane County Humane Society or the Madison
Area Literacy Council. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held in the
spring and will be announced at a later date. Sandy honored us all with
his kindness, his integrity, and his cordial wit. A well-read man, he
shared his love of language, and was the dearest companion, father,
friend, and the finest of teachers.
